One thing I've tried is taking index cards and writing words (vocabulary or whatever word you want them to learn) on them. Then to expand on the word, on the back, write a sentence that goes with that word, and for younger children, drawing a picture of that word.

Soon they begin to visualize what is on the back.

I'm not sure how to handle that with the words I don't have signs for!
For them, I just fingerspell!

To teach my son, who happens to be deaf, phonics, I simply write the letters that make the sound! How else do you teach someone who can NOT hear sound... about sound????????? Rolling Eyes

I don't know if you have tried to hold his hand to your neck for the vibrations...as well as putting his hand in front of your mouth to feel the breath and stregnth or lack of it. It is not a "magic" teach all but is just a tool. Smile
